When the clock consistently resets to 1:00 after a flicker, it indicates that the capacitor has leaked, dried out, or suffered a dielectric breakdown, losing its ability to hold a charge. Because the clock chip has no non-volatile memory (NVRAM) to store the time, it reverts to its factory default state—1:00—the moment the voltage drops below the operational threshold. You can confirm this by plugging the unit into a high-quality surge protector; if a mere 2-second power blink resets the clock, the backup capacitor is definitively dead.
How to Fix It
Since the capacitor is soldered directly to the proprietary control board, a permanent fix requires hardware replacement. If you are not experienced with soldering, the most reliable solution is replacing the entire main control board assembly.
- Unplug the unit from the wall outlet and allow it to cool completely to avoid burns from the heating element.
- Remove the base plate screws located on the bottom of the machine using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
- Carefully lift the plastic housing to expose the internal wiring and the green PCB (Printed Circuit Board).
- Locate the wiring harness connecting the front control panel to the main board. Gently depress the locking tab and disconnect the harness.
- Unscrew the board mounting brackets and remove the faulty PCB.
- Install the replacement board, ensuring the board sits flush against the chassis to avoid short-circuiting against the metal frame.
- Reconnect the wiring harness and the thermal fuse leads.
- Reassemble the housing and test the unit by plugging it in, setting the time, and then briefly unplugging it for 5 seconds to verify the clock holds.
If That Didn't Work
- Check for "Brownouts" or Voltage Sag: If your kitchen circuit is overloaded (e.g., running a toaster and microwave on the same line), the voltage may drop enough to trigger a reset without a full power outage. Try plugging the DCC-3200P1 into a dedicated 15-amp circuit to see if the resets stop.
