the clock on my hamilton beach coffee maker resets to 12:00 every time i unplug it, even for a second. do i need a new battery?

DIAGNOSIS The FlexBrew Trio does not have a backup battery. The clock is maintained by a capacitor that holds a charge for a short period. If it resets instantly, the capacitor on the main control board has failed or discharged prematurely.

FIX First, ensure the unit is plugged into a working outlet with stable power. Try a different outlet on a different circuit. If the problem persists, the internal capacitor is the cause. There is no user-serviceable fix for this component. The clock function is non-essential to brewing.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK As a workaround, you can use the programmable features without the correct time. To set an auto-brew, you program a duration from now, not an absolute time of day. Press 'Program', use the hour/minute buttons to set how many hours and minutes from the present you want the brew to start, then press 'Program' again to confirm.

HEADS UP Frequently unplugging the unit or using it on an outlet controlled by a light switch will guarantee the clock resets. For auto-brew functionality, the machine must remain plugged into a constant power source.
