Diagnosis
This is almost always a failed user interface (UI) board. The faint hum means main power is reaching the machine, but the touchpad and display aren't getting the low-voltage signal from the control brain. It's a known weak point.
How to Fix It
You'll need to replace the user interface/control panel assembly. For the WDT970SAKZ, the part number is usually W10889179 (the number can vary by color). It's a direct swap: remove the inner door panel screws, disconnect the old panel's ribbon cable, and install the new one. You don't need to replace the whole main control board.
If That Didn't Work
If a new UI panel doesn't fix it, the issue could be the main control board itself (part W10878637) or, rarely, a wiring harness issue between the boards. But the UI board fails far more often.
Heads Up
Before ordering parts, double-check that the dishwasher is getting power. Ensure the circuit breaker is on and the unit is plugged in (it's often on a switched outlet under the sink). The faint hum is a good clue, but a voltage tester can confirm.
