If the tape is skewed even by a fraction of a millimeter, the blade will hit the material at an angle rather than perpendicular, resulting in a jagged edge or a failure to cut through the final layer of the waterproof laminate. You can confirm this by looking at the cut edge under a bright light; if you see a sticky residue or a "burr" of plastic, it is a cleaning issue. If the cut is slanted, it is a loading issue.

How to Fix It

To restore a factory-clean cut, follow these precise steps to deep-clean the mechanism and reset the tape tension:

1. Power off the device and remove the label cassette entirely to ensure no one accidentally triggers the motor during cleaning.
2. Locate the cutter assembly. Using a cotton swab dipped in 90% or higher Isopropyl Alcohol, firmly scrub the half-moon shaped blade. Pay special attention to the very tip of the blade and the flat surface it strikes (the anvil).
3. Manually trigger the cutter mechanism 5 to 10 times without tape installed. This cycles the blade through its full range of motion, breaking up any hardened adhesive pockets that the swab couldn't reach.
4. Use a can of compressed air to blow out any loosened adhesive particles or dust from the cutting track.
5. Reinsert the tape cassette, ensuring the spool is pushed firmly back against the rear wall of the compartment. The tape should be perfectly centered in the guide slot.
6. Run a "Test Print" of a small 1-inch label to verify the shear is now complete.

If That Didn't Work
