The loud clicking or chattering noise you are hearing in your iSpring RCC7AK faucet is a phenomenon known as "valve chatter" or "hydraulic oscillation." This occurs when the internal diaphragm or spring within the faucet's valve assembly fails to seat firmly, causing it to oscillate rapidly between open and closed positions as water flows through. Essentially, the water pressure is fighting the spring tension, creating a high-frequency vibration that resonates through the metal body of the faucet, resulting in that metallic rattling or clicking sound. This is most common when the faucet handle is only partially opened. When the valve is only cracked open, it creates a high-velocity narrow stream of water (the Venturi effect), which pulls the valve disc toward the opening, only for the spring to snap it back. This cycle happens dozens of times per second. You can confirm this is the issue if the noise changes pitch or disappears entirely when you move the handle to the fully open position. While it sounds like the faucet is breaking, it is typically a fluid dynamics issue rather than a mechanical failure of the internal components.
How to Fix It
To eliminate the chattering noise and stabilize the flow, follow these precise steps to optimize the pressure and valve operation:
- Test Full Aperture: Slowly move the faucet handle to the 100% open position. If the noise stops immediately, the issue is simply the flow rate at partial opening. To prevent this, always open the faucet fully before allowing water to flow.
- Check the Storage Tank Pressure: Low pressure in the pressurized storage tank (typically the 3.2 gallon tank) can cause inconsistent flow that triggers chatter. Shut off the cold water supply to the RO system. Use a calibrated tire gauge to check the air valve (Schrader valve) at the bottom of the tank. It should read between 7 and 10 PSI when the tank is empty. If it is lower, use a bicycle pump to add air.
- Flush the System: Air pockets trapped in the lines can exacerbate vibrations. Open the RO faucet and let it run for 3-5 minutes continuously. This clears any trapped air from the membrane housing and the final stage carbon filter that may be causing turbulence.
- Inspect the Faucet Aerator: Unscrew the small aerator screen at the tip of the faucet spout. If calcium deposits or carbon fines have clogged the screen, it creates back-pressure that forces the internal valve to vibrate. Clean the screen with white vinegar or replace it.
If That Didn't Work
- Install a Water Hammer Arrestor: If your home has extremely high incoming water pressure (above 80 PSI), the shockwaves can travel through the RO lines. Install a mini-hammer arrestor on the cold water feed line before it enters the first stage filter housing to dampen the pressure spikes.
- Adjust the Feed Water Valve: Locate the shut-off valve where the RO system connects to your home's cold water line. Slightly close this valve (turn it about 1/4 turn clockwise) to marginally reduce the input pressure entering the system, which can stabilize the internal valve oscillation.
- Replace the Faucet Assembly: If the chatter persists even when fully open and after adjusting tank pressure, the internal spring in the faucet handle has likely lost its tension (fatigued). Since the RCC7AK faucet is a sealed unit, you cannot replace the spring; you must replace the entire faucet assembly.
- Check for Kinked Tubing: Inspect the 1/4" LLDPE tubing leading from the tank to the faucet. A slight kink or a pinch in the line can create turbulent flow, which manifests as a vibration or clicking sound at the faucet head.

- Avoid Partial Opening: To extend the life of the valve seals, avoid "trickling" the water. Always open the handle fully to ensure a smooth, laminar flow.
- Tank Maintenance: Check your storage tank air pressure every 6 months. An under-pressurized tank is the leading cause of erratic flow and noise in iSpring systems.
- Filter Replacement: Change your pre-filters every 6 months. Clogged sediment filters can cause pressure drops that make the faucet behave unpredictably.
- Leak Check: Whenever you adjust the feed valve or check the tank, use a dry tissue to wipe all "Quick Connect" fittings to ensure no micro-leaks have developed due to the vibration.
