DIAGNOSIS If steam is leaking from around the lid instead of the float valve sealing and popping up, the sealing ring is the prime suspect. It's either not seated correctly, is dirty/greasy, or has lost its elasticity.
FIX 1) Turn the pot off and let it cool completely. 2) Remove the silicone sealing ring from the lid. Wash it thoroughly with warm, soapy water—grease or food debris can prevent a tight seal. Dry it completely. 3) Before you put it back, stretch it gently a few times to restore its shape. 4) Make sure it's seated perfectly in its groove all the way around the lid. The lip should be tucked under the metal rim evenly. 5) Also, wipe the rim of the inner pot and the underside of the lid where the ring makes contact. Now try a water test: put 3 cups of water in the pot, seal it, and set it for 2 minutes on high pressure. The valve should seal and pop up within a few minutes.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Inspect the float valve itself. Pop it out of the lid (it just pulls straight up). Check for tiny bits of food lodged in the hole or on the valve stem. Clean it with a toothpick if needed. Make sure it moves up and down freely.
HEADS UP Never operate the pot if steam is continuously leaking from the lid. It won't reach pressure, and you'll burn out the heating element trying. Always ensure a good seal before a long cook.
