the grinder on my new delonghi is making a loud screeching or grinding metal noise when it runs.

DIAGNOSIS A foreign object, likely a stray roast bean fragment or packaging debris, is lodged in the ceramic burr grinder. This is common during initial setup.

FIX Power off and unplug the machine. Remove the bean hopper. Use the provided cleaning brush to manually rotate the upper burr (silver disc) counter-clockwise to unlock and lift it out. Inspect the lower burr chamber. Use a vacuum attachment to remove all debris. Reassemble by aligning the red dot on the upper burr with the unlock symbol, press down, and turn clockwise to lock.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The noise may indicate misaligned or damaged burrs from a prior jam. Run a visual check for chipped ceramic edges on both burrs. Replacement is necessary if damaged.

HEADS UP Never use compressed air or water to clean the grinder chamber. Static from air can lodge fines deeper, and moisture will ruin the burrs.
