DIAGNOSIS The motor is overloaded. A rock-hard, low-fat frozen base creates too much resistance for the initial spin. The thermal overload protector trips to prevent motor burnout.
FIX Let the pint sit on the counter for 5-10 minutes to temper. The top should soften slightly. Use the "Freezer Bowl Prep" function (if your model has it) for 1-2 minutes to slightly soften the surface. For the next batch, ensure your base mixture has adequate fat/sugar content. Add a tablespoon of pudding mix, guar gum, or alcohol to improve scoopability.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Unplug the unit for 30 minutes to let the motor and overload protector fully reset. If it still hums and fails on a properly tempered pint, the motor capacitor may be faulty. This requires a professional check.
HEADS UP Never use a hammer, hot water, or force to loosen the pint. You can crack the container. Tempering is a required step for most recipes. The motor is designed for crushing ice, not chiseling it.
