This is often caused by "air pockets" where the blades spin in a void while the ice remains frozen in a clump above them. If you hear a high-pitched whine or a rhythmic thumping, the motor is drawing maximum current to overcome the friction of the ice. You can confirm this by checking if the ice is simply spinning in a circle without being pulverized, or if the motor shuts off automatically due to the internal thermal protection circuit triggering to prevent the windings from melting.
How to Fix It
To eliminate the straining and stabilize the unit, you must optimize the loading sequence and liquid-to-solid ratio to ensure a proper vortex. Follow these exact steps:
- Liquid Base: Pour 8 to 16 ounces of your liquid base (water, juice, or milk) into the pitcher first. The liquid must be at the bottom to lubricate the blade assembly and initiate the vortex.
- Soft Layering: Add your soft ingredients next—such as fresh fruit, yogurt, or powders. This creates a bridge between the liquid and the hard ice.
- Ice Placement: Add your ice or frozen fruit last, on top of the other ingredients. Do not exceed the 64 oz MAX fill line; overloading the pitcher increases the weight and makes the unit more prone to walking.
- The Pulse Method: Instead of immediately hitting "High," use the Pulse button 3 to 5 times in short bursts. This breaks the initial ice clumps into smaller fragments, reducing the initial torque load on the motor.
