It is designed to maintain a high temperature to prevent a full 60oz reservoir of coffee from cooling too quickly; however, when you brew a smaller batch (such as 4 or 6 cups), the ratio of heat to liquid is skewed. Because the heating element continues to pulse at a high temperature, the coffee at the bottom of the glass carafe reaches a boiling point, leading to "burnt" flavors and a dark, syrupy residue. You can confirm this is the issue if you notice the coffee tastes fine immediately after brewing but develops a bitter, acrid taste after 20-30 minutes of sitting on the plate. There is no internal dial or software setting to lower the actual temperature of the plate.
How to Fix It
Since the temperature cannot be lowered, the only way to prevent burning is to manually disable the heating element as soon as the brew cycle completes. Follow these exact steps:
- Wait for the brewing cycle to finish completely. The machine will typically signal this with a beep or by the "Brew" light turning off.
- Locate the "Keep Warm" button on the front control panel.

If That Didn't Work
