If the water rushes through a few narrow gaps, it fails to extract the essential oils and flavors from the rest of the coffee, leaving you with a thin, under-extracted brew despite using the same amount of coffee as your previous machine. In this specific Ninja model, this is often caused by one of two things: an incorrect brew style selection or a failure in the showerhead distribution. The "Classic" setting uses a faster flow rate designed for lighter roasts or those who prefer a milder cup. If you are used to a traditional drip machine, "Classic" will feel weak. Additionally, mineral buildup (calcium/magnesium) in the small holes of the spray head can cause water to stream in a single heavy jet rather than a wide mist, punching a hole straight through the center of your coffee grounds and bypassing the rest of the basket.
How to Fix It
To resolve the extraction issue and restore the strength of your brew, follow these precise steps:
- Switch to Rich Brew: Locate the Brew Style selector on the front panel. Toggle this from "Classic" to "Rich." The Rich setting modifies the pump timing to slow the water flow, increasing the contact time between the water and the grounds, which maximizes extraction.

- Level the Coffee Bed: After adding your coffee to the permanent gold-tone filter, do not stir it or pack it down. Instead, gently shake the brew basket side-to-side to level the surface. This prevents the water from creating "channels" on one side of the basket.
- Clear the Showerhead: Open the top lid and look at the spray head (the plastic piece where water exits). If you see white crusty deposits, take a damp cloth with a small amount of white vinegar and scrub the holes. Use a toothpick or a thin sewing needle to gently clear any individual holes that appear blocked.
- Verify Water Level: Ensure you are filling the 60oz reservoir to the appropriate line for your desired cup count. Under-filling can sometimes affect the pump pressure and flow consistency.
