trying to set up my epson wf-2860 fax with an answering machine and it's not picking up, keeps going to the answering machine first. how do i fix the ring settings?

The fax is set to answer calls before your answering machine. You must adjust the Rings to Answer setting so the printer waits longer.

1. Press the Home button.
2. Select Settings > General Settings > Fax Settings > Basic Settings > Rings to Answer.
3. Select a number of rings higher than the number of rings your answering machine is set to answer on.
4. Select OK.

If that didn't work: Ensure your fax Receive Mode is set to Auto. If you connected an external telephone or answering machine during the Fax Setting Wizard, you should have selected to receive faxes automatically.

Heads up: If you answer the phone and hear a fax tone, hang up and check that the printer has started receiving the fax.
