Water pooling beneath the EUHOMY Nugget Ice Maker is typically caused by one of three specific failure points: an improperly seated drain plug, a clogged internal drainage line, or a failure of the condensation collection system. Because this machine uses a "nugget" process—where ice is extruded through a chilled cylinder—a significant amount of moisture is generated during the freeze-and-scraping cycle. If the internal drainage path to the reservoir is obstructed, water overflows the internal basin and seeps through the bottom chassis seams. You can confirm the source by placing a dry paper towel under the front-right corner of the machine. If the towel wets quickly, it is likely a leak from the internal reservoir seal. If the water is pooling centrally, it is usually a result of the drain pan overflowing due to "melt-off" from the ice basket. Another common culprit is "back-splash" where water from the ice basket drips down the exterior of the plastic housing, bypassing the drip tray and running directly onto the countertop.
How to Fix It
To resolve the leakage and ensure the seals are watertight, follow these precise steps:
- Power Down and Drain: Unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Remove the ice basket and the top cover. Locate the drain plug at the bottom rear of the machine. Unscrew the plug completely and allow all residual water to empty into a sink. This clears any sediment that may be blocking the flow.
- Inspect the Drain Plug Seal: Examine the rubber O-ring on the drain plug. If it is pinched, cracked, or missing, water will leak from the rear. Clean the threading of the plug and the receiving hole with a damp cloth to remove mineral buildup, then screw it back in firmly—do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic housing.
- Clear the Internal Conduit: Using a flexible pipe cleaner or a thin straw, gently probe the internal drainage hole located beneath the ice-making cylinder. Ensure no ice shards or mineral scale are preventing water from flowing back into the reservoir.
- Reseat the Drip Tray: Remove the shallow drip tray from the bottom. Clean the tray and the area where it meets the chassis. Ensure the tray is pushed fully into its slot; if it is offset by even a few millimeters, meltwater from the basket will bypass the tray and leak onto the counter.
- Dry and Test: Wipe the exterior and bottom of the unit completely dry. Refill the reservoir with fresh water, plug it in, and run one full cycle (approximately 6-10 minutes) while observing the base with a flashlight to pinpoint any active drips.
If That Didn't Work
- Check for Cracked Reservoir: Inspect the internal water tank for hairline fractures. If the plastic has cracked due to a hard impact or extreme temperature fluctuations, water will seep through the bottom. If a crack is found, use a food-grade silicone sealant to plug the gap, though replacing the tank is the only permanent fix.
- Address Pump Seal Failure: If water is leaking specifically from the center-bottom of the unit, the internal water pump seal may have failed. This often happens if the unit was tilted or moved while full of water. This requires a professional teardown to replace the pump gasket.
- Deep Descale the System: Mineral buildup (calcium/magnesium) can create "bridges" that divert water away from the drain and toward the chassis seams. Run a mixture of 50% white vinegar and 50% water through the auto-clean cycle twice to clear internal blockages.
- Verify Leveling: Place a bubble level on top of the machine. If the unit is tilted forward, water will not flow correctly toward the rear drain and may overflow the internal basin. Adjust the placement or use shims to ensure the unit is perfectly level.

- Avoid Overfilling: Never fill the water reservoir past the "MAX" line; overfilling can cause water to enter the ventilation ports and leak through the bottom of the chassis.
- Weekly Drain Maintenance: Even if you use the auto-clean feature, manually drain the unit via the rear plug once every two weeks to remove sediment that the pump cannot push through.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Never use bleach or abrasive cleaners on the exterior or interior of the machine, as this can degrade the rubber seals and lead to permanent leaks.
- Airflow Clearance: Ensure there is at least 4-6 inches of space around the sides and back of the unit. Poor ventilation causes the exterior to "sweat" (condensation), which can mimic a leak by pooling water at the base.
