why is my epson ecotank printing really slow, like a page every few minutes?

— asked by Alex

Yeah, this is common if you're printing complex graphics or photos on the wrong settings. The rated speeds are for ISO test patterns under ideal conditions.

Check your print job. The ET-2800 prints at 10.0 ISO ppm (black) and 5.0 ISO ppm (color) for documents. The first page out takes about 10 seconds (black) or 16 seconds (color). A 4x6" borderless photo takes about 90 seconds at default speed. If you're printing a high-resolution photo on 'Best' quality, it will be significantly slower.

Fix: For documents, ensure you're printing in 'Standard' or 'Draft' mode, not 'High Quality' or 'Photo'. Use plain paper (64-90 g/m²) for text. If you're printing photos, 90 seconds for a 4x6" is the expected baseline.

If that didn't work: The connection could be a bottleneck. A USB connection is generally faster than Wi-Fi. If using Wi-Fi, a weak signal can cause data transfer delays. Try moving the printer closer to the router or using a USB cable.

Heads up: System configuration and software also affect speed. An old computer or a crowded network will slow things down. Those ISO speeds are the best-case scenario.
