When you hear a grinding noise, it usually indicates that the ice block has frozen unevenly, causing it to "catch" on the side walls or the guide rails, forcing the motor to strain against a physical obstruction. Alternatively, the rattling is often caused by "scale cavitation." In areas with hard water, calcium and magnesium deposits build up on the silver evaporator plates. These mineral flakes can break off and fall into the pump intake or get lodged between the moving parts of the lifting assembly. If the noise is a rhythmic rattling, it is likely the internal water pump vibrating against a loose mounting bracket or the ice basket not being fully flush against the chassis, allowing the motor's natural resonance to shake the plastic housing.

How to Fix It

1. Immediately power off the unit and unplug it from the wall outlet to prevent the motor from overheating due to the added resistance.
