When the device attempts to reboot, the bootloader cannot verify the integrity of the operating system files, causing the system to hang at the splash screen. This is often exacerbated by a "dirty" power restoration where voltage fluctuates rapidly before stabilizing, preventing the onboard capacitors from discharging fully. You can confirm this is a software hang rather than a hardware failure if the backlit display is bright and the logo is crisp; if the screen is flickering or dim, you are likely dealing with a failing C-wire power delivery issue or a blown fuse on the HVAC control board.
How to Fix It
To resolve a frozen boot sequence, you must perform a complete power cycle to clear the system cache and force a fresh hardware initialization. Follow these exact steps:
- Locate your home's electrical service panel and switch the breaker labeled "HVAC," "Furnace," or "Air Handler" to the OFF position. Do not simply turn off the thermostat; the unit must lose all 24VAC power.
