How to Fix It
To use aluminum foil safely, follow these precise steps:
- Shape and Secure: Use a small piece of foil to line only the bottom of the basket. Press it flat against the basket surface; it should not curl up at the sides or form a bowl shape.
- Keep Clearances: The foil must never cover the perforated crisper plate or be placed underneath it. It must not block any of the air intake vents at the bottom of the basket or the top heating coil.
- Anchor with Food: Always place food directly on top of the foil to weigh it down and prevent it from being lifted by the fan.
- Monitor First Use: During your initial test, observe the first few minutes of operation to ensure the foil remains completely flat and stationary.
If That Didn't Work
If you're uncomfortable using foil or find it still interferes with cooking, use these alternatives:
- For easy cleanup, simply spray the basket with a light coating of cooking oil before adding food.
- For drippy foods, place a small, heat-safe ceramic or silicone dish in the basket to catch grease, ensuring it does not touch the heating element.
- Clean the basket immediately after use while it's still warm (but not hot) with warm soapy water and a soft sponge.

Never use parchment paper, baking paper, or wax paper unless it is explicitly weighted down by food, as the intense airflow can lift it into the heating coil. Absolutely avoid metal scouring pads, abrasive cleaners, or dishwasher cleaning for the nonstick basket and crisper plate, as this will permanently damage the coating.
