Yeah, this one's common and usually not a sign it's broken. White smoke or steam is normal, especially the first time you use it or when cooking greasy foods. The oil collects beneath the crisper plate and heats up.
Fix: First, don't panic. Unattended cooking is a bigger risk than the smoke. Check these things:
- Make sure the basket and the inside of the air fryer are clean and not greasy. Old grease burns and smokes.
- If you're cooking something fatty, the smoke is likely just from that oil. It's normal and shouldn't affect the cooking.
If that didn't work: If the smoke is dark, that's a different story. Dark smoke means food is burning or there's a circuit problem. Immediately unplug the air fryer, wait for the smoke to clear, and pull the basket out. If the food isn't burnt, you've got a circuit issue and need to contact support.
Heads up: Handle the basket with extra care when there's white smoke, as it might be hotter than usual. And never, ever fill the basket with oil or fat—that's asking for a fire, not just smoke.
