can i use my keurig k-classic to just get hot water for tea or oatmeal?

Yeah, you can. It's a common workaround. Just run a brew cycle without a K-Cup pod.

  1. Fill the hot water tank.
  2. Place your cup on the drip tray. Don't use a glass mug.
  3. Press the flashing BREW button. Do not put a K-Cup in the holder.
  4. The hot water will dispense. The whole cycle takes less than 3 minutes.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: If the "PLACE CUP" light is flashing, the sensor doesn't see your cup. Make sure it's not a clear glass mug. Use a ceramic cup.

HEADS UP: Only put water in the hot water tank. Do not put any other liquids or foods in there. And never open the K-Cup chamber during the brew process—there's extremely hot water in there.
