Yeah, you can, but you have to trick it a bit. It's designed for a full carafe.
Put at least 4 cups of water in the reservoir. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate. Put a single serving's worth of grounds in the filter basket. Run the brew cycle normally. The machine needs that minimum water volume to operate correctly and avoid overheating. It'll brew a more concentrated amount directly into the carafe, which you can then pour.
If that didn't work: Trying to run it with less than 4 cups of water can trigger the thermal protection and shut the unit off. It's a safety feature, not a malfunction.
Heads up: Don't try to bypass the carafe and brew directly into a mug. The showerhead dispersion isn't designed for that and you'll likely get splashed with hot water.
