If you notice water leaking from the edges of the pod holder or if the coffee tastes watery and translucent, it is because the water is taking the path of least resistance around the pod rather than being forced through the compacted grounds.
How to Fix It
To get a consistent brew with a reusable pod in the FlexBrew Trio, follow these precise calibration steps:
- Verify Pod Dimensions: Ensure you are using a "Short Profile" reusable pod. Standard K-cup replacements are often too tall; look for pods specifically marketed for Hamilton Beach or "Slim-Fit" versions.
- The Grind Selection: Use a medium-coarse grind (similar to sea salt). If you use a fine espresso grind, the water will "channel" or clog the pod, causing the machine to strain and potentially trigger an overflow.
- The "Level Fill" Technique: Fill the pod with exactly one level tablespoon of coffee. Do not heap the coffee above the rim. Use a finger or a stir stick to gently press the grounds down—do not pack them tight like an espresso puck, as this blocks water flow.
