Diagnosis
The main bin of your Dyson V15 Detect should never be washed in a dishwasher. The bin assembly contains precision components, including a clear bin for debris viewing, a shroud, and critical seals (like the one around the cyclone shroud). The high heat and aggressive detergents in a dishwasher will degrade these seals, warp the plastic, and can permanently damage the bin's fit and function.
How to Fix It
To properly clean the bin, follow these steps:
- Remove the bin by pressing the red bin release button on the vacuum's main body and sliding the entire bin unit straight off.
- Hold the bin over a trash can and press the red bin base release latch to open the bottom and empty all debris.
- For cleaning, use only a damp, lint-free cloth. You may use cool or lukewarm water on the cloth, but do not immerse the bin in water or run it under a tap.
- Wipe the interior of the clear bin, the cyclone shroud, and the exterior. Do not use any detergents, scented cleaners, polishes, or abrasive materials.
- Ensure every part, especially the rubber seals, is completely dry before reassembly. Let it air-dry naturally.
- To refit, align the bin's spine with the runner on the main body and slide it firmly back into place until it clicks.
- Close the bin base by pushing it up until it audibly clicks shut.
If That Didn't Work
If debris remains stubbornly stuck to the cyclone or bin walls, you can use a soft-bristled brush (like a clean, dry paintbrush) to gently dislodge it. For persistent odors, ensure the bin is empty and dry, then leave it in a well-ventilated area for several hours. Never use chemical deodorizers or air fresheners inside the bin.
Heads Up
Washing the bin in a dishwasher, using liquids, or improper drying will damage the seals and plastics. This can cause air leaks, severely reduce suction, and allow fine dust to bypass the filtration system. Such damage is considered misuse and is not covered under the Dyson warranty.
