can i wash the filters in my dyson v8? they look really dirty.

Yes, you can and should wash both filters regularly, but there's a very specific, dry way to do it. They must be completely dry before you put them back.

You have two filters:

  1. The Pre-filter: It's in the top of the cyclone. Lift it out. Tap it to remove loose dust. Hold the open end under a running tap until the water runs clear. Then turn it upside down, tap it, and run water over the outside until clear. Squeeze and twist with both hands to remove excess water.
  2. The Post-filter: It's on the back of the machine, above the handle. Twist it anti-clockwise and pull it off. Wash the inside under cold running water, rotating it, until the water runs clear. Shake it firmly to remove excess water.

Drying is critical. For both filters:

  • Leave them to dry for at least 24 hours in a warm, well-ventilated place.
  • Stand the Post-filter with the open end facing up.
  • Do not use a tumble-dryer or place near a naked flame.
Reinsert only when 100% dry. The Pre-filter aligns with the arrow pointing to the bin release button. The Post-filter twists clockwise until it clicks.

Heads up: Using the machine with a damp filter can damage it. If you wash the bin, only wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry completely too.
