When the door reaches the middle of its travel, the angle of the panels creates the maximum amount of friction against the tracks, amplifying any mechanical imperfections. This happens because the motor is fighting against the door's own weight and friction. If the rollers are seized or the tracks are slightly out of alignment, the door "sticks" for a fraction of a second and then "pops" forward. This cycle repeats rapidly, creating the shaking sensation. You can confirm this by pulling the emergency release cord (the red handle) and moving the door by hand; if you feel a "catch" or a vibration in the tracks at the same point the opener chatters, the issue is mechanical, not electronic.
How to Fix It
To eliminate the chatter, you must isolate the door from the drive system and address the friction points. Follow these steps precisely:
- Isolate the Door: Pull the red emergency release handle to disconnect the Legacy 920 carriage from the door. This ensures you are testing the door's balance and movement without the motor's influence.
- Manual Travel Test: Slowly lift the door by hand from the floor to the fully open position. Pay close attention to the mid-point of the travel. Feel for any "jumping" or resistance in the horizontal tracks where the door transitions from vertical to horizontal.

- Precision Lubrication: Apply a heavy-duty silicone or lithium-based garage door lubricant to the roller bearings and the hinges.
