Diagnosis
The laser on your Dyson V15's Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head is powered independently via a manual switch on the head itself. The most common cause for it not turning on is that this switch is in the 'off' position. Less commonly, the issue can be an incomplete electrical connection between the head, wand, and main body.
How to Fix It
First, check the cleaner head's physical switch.
- Turn the vacuum off and lay it on its side to access the cleaner head.
- Locate the small, horizontal slider switch on the top of the Laser Slim Fluffy head, near where it connects to the wand.
- Slide the switch firmly to the "on" position. You should see a red laser line project onto the floor in front of the roller bar.
- Detach the cleaner head from the wand by pressing the red release button.
- Detach the wand from the main body by pressing its red release button.
- Firmly reattach all components, ensuring each one clicks securely into place. The laser requires power from the main body, so a loose connection will prevent it from working.
If That Didn't Work
Try these steps to isolate the problem:
- Test the laser with the vacuum turned on and the motor running. The laser should operate independently of suction power, but this confirms the circuit is active.
- Inspect the laser window (a small, clear square on the front of the cleaner head) for any blockages like hair, thread, or debris, and clear it carefully.
- Try attaching a different Dyson cleaner head (if available) to confirm the main body and wand are delivering power correctly. If other powered heads work, the issue is likely with the laser module in your specific Fluffy head.

The integrated laser is a Class 1 laser product, which is eye-safe under normal operating conditions. Avoid looking directly into the beam. The laser's sole function is to illuminate dust and particles on hard floors; it does not enhance suction. It is normal for the laser to turn off automatically when the cleaner head is tilted upright.
