Diagnosis
F7 E1 is a motor control fault. It means the washer's electronic control board isn't getting the expected signal from the motor or the motor isn't responding correctly, often due to a wiring issue or a failed motor control unit.
How to Fix It
Start with the simplest thing: unplug the washer from the wall outlet for a full five minutes. This resets the control board. Plug it back in and try starting a cycle. If the code returns, you need to check connections. Unplug it again. Access the rear panel. Find the wiring harness that connects the main control board to the motor control unit (often mounted on the motor itself). Carefully unplug and replug these connectors to ensure they're seated properly. Look for any obviously frayed or burnt wires. Clear any lint buildup around the motor area.
If That Didn't Work
The motor control unit (also called the actuator) might have failed. It's the electronic module attached to the motor. If connections are good and the code persists, this part likely needs to be replaced. You can test it with a multimeter if you're handy, but often diagnosis points here.
Heads Up
Before you condemn the control board or motor, double-check that the lid switch is functioning. A faulty lid switch can sometimes cause strange communication errors. Try holding the lid switch down manually (with the lid open) while starting a spin cycle to test it.
