express water ro5dx making water slow, like a trickle, took forever to fill a glass. help?

Slow flow usually means something is restricting the water's path. Let's check the most common culprits first.

DIAGNOSIS: Likely a clogged filter or a problem with water pressure.

FIX: Follow these steps:

  1. Check your incoming water pressure. It needs to be above 40 psi for the RO membrane to work correctly.
  2. Inspect the pre-filters (sediment and carbon blocks). If they're dark brown or black, they're clogged and need replacement.
  3. Make sure the storage tank's air pressure is correct (around 7-8 psi when empty). A flat tank won't push water out fast.
  4. Check that the automatic shut-off valve isn't stuck closed.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: The RO membrane itself could be fouled. If your feed water has very high TDS or sediment, it can coat the membrane. A damaged or old membrane also has reduced flow. Time for a replacement.

HEADS UP: Regularly changing your pre-filters protects the expensive membrane and keeps flow rate up. Mark your calendar for the recommended change intervals.
