DIAGNOSIS Regular cleaning is mandatory for operation. Scale buildup in the water system is the primary cause of performance failure.

FIX Use only GE Genuine Cleaning Cartridges or a citric acid powder solution. Do not use vinegar. Initiate clean cycle: ensure machine is on and has water. Press and hold CLEAN button for 3 seconds. The cycle runs automatically for 25 minutes, flushing the system. After, run two 'Ice Making' cycles without the cleaner to rinse.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK For visible scale in the ice bin or on the evaporator, manual cleaning is required. Unplug. Remove all ice. Mix 1 tablespoon of citric acid with 16 oz warm water. Use a soft cloth to wipe scale from the bin interior and the visible silver evaporator plate. Rinse thoroughly.

HEADS UP Never use abrasive pads or cleaners. They will scratch the evaporator plate, causing ice to stick permanently and ruining the unit. The cleaning cycle is for the internal lines, not the bin.
