How to Fix It
The only safe method: Unplug, wait until completely cool. Dampen a soft cloth (microfiber is best) with rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) and wipe the barrel firmly. The alcohol dissolves the buildup without harming the gold plating or ceramic.
If That Didn't Work
For stubborn, carbonized spots, try a dedicated ceramic iron cleaner spray on the cool barrel, following precisely. Avoid any cleaners with abrasives.

Never use water or a wet cloth on a hot barrel—it can cause thermal shock and crack the ceramic core. Never use nail polish remover (acetone) or harsh oven cleaners; they will strip the gold plating.
