Diagnosis
The internal timer circuit responsible for the automatic shut-off mechanism has failed. In the Hot Tools Pro Artist 24K Gold series, this safety feature is designed to cut power after approximately 60 minutes of inactivity. If the barrel remains scorching hot several hours later, the thermal sensor or the electronic timer has malfunctioned, meaning the device is no longer capable of self-regulating its power state.
How to Fix It
To confirm the failure and determine the next steps:
- Unplug the iron and let it cool completely to reset any potential glitches.
- Plug the device back in and set it to your desired temperature.
- Once it reaches heat, leave it undisturbed on a heat-safe surface.
- Set a timer for exactly 60 minutes. If the barrel is still hot to the touch after 65 minutes, the auto-off feature is definitively broken.
- Immediately unplug the device and cease use of the tool.
If That Didn't Work
Because the auto-shutoff is integrated into the main circuit board of the iron, there is no manual reset button or user-serviceable part to fix this issue. Attempting to open the casing to repair the timer can compromise the electrical insulation and increase the risk of short-circuiting. If the unit is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer for a replacement. If it is out of warranty, the unit must be replaced for safety reasons.

A malfunctioning auto-shutoff is a critical safety failure. Do not rely on the device to turn itself off, as this creates a significant fire hazard. If you choose to continue using the iron until you can replace it, you must manually unplug it from the wall outlet immediately after every use.
