how do i get my dell display manager window layouts to save and come back when i reconnect my laptop to the monitor?

Enable the Auto-Restore feature. This function tracks your application window positions and reapplies them when you reconnect your setup.

Right-click the DDM icon in your system tray (near the clock). From the context menu, select "Auto-restore window layout." Once enabled, DDM remembers your window positions and will automatically place them back when you reconnect your computer to the monitor.

Important: The applications themselves must be running for this to work. DDM repositions open windows; it does not launch applications for you.

For a specific saved layout: First, arrange your windows exactly how you want them. Right-click the DDM system tray icon and choose "Save current window layout." Later, to return to that exact arrangement, right-click the icon again and select "Restore saved window layout."
