how do i reset the travel limits on my craftsman 57918 after installing a new door?

— asked by Morgan

DIAGNOSIS The opener's internal memory still has the old door's up/down positions. You must clear these and teach it the new limits.

FIX Perform a travel limit reprogram. This is a manual process on this model.

  1. Pull the red emergency release cord to disconnect the door from the opener. Manually move the door to exactly halfway open.
  2. Re-engage the opener by pulling the release handle toward the door until it clicks.
  3. On the wall console, press and hold the button until the opener light flashes. Release. The door will now move.
  4. Use the remote or wall button to move the door to the desired FULL UP position, then press and hold the button again until you hear a click. Repeat for the FULL DOWN position.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK You may have started from the wrong position. Perform a full reset: Unplug the opener for 30 seconds, then start from Step 1 with the door halfway up.

HEADS UP Always set the DOWN limit first, ensuring the door seals lightly on the floor. Then set the UP limit. Incorrect order can cause the door to try to travel beyond its mechanical stops.
