DIAGNOSIS Dust, pollen, and water spots accumulate on the outer lens cover. Using improper cleaners or cloths can leave residues that degrade image quality, especially at night.
FIX Power down the camera by removing one battery. Use a soft, dry microfiber lens cloth designed for eyewear or cameras. Gently wipe the lens in a circular motion from the center outward. For stubborn spots, lightly dampen the cloth with distilled water. Wipe dry immediately with a clean part of the cloth.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK For built-up grime, use a drop of isopropyl alcohol (70% or less) on the microfiber cloth, not directly on the lens. Wipe gently. The lens cover is polycarbonate. Do not use window cleaner, vinegar, or abrasive pastes.
HEADS UP Never spray any liquid directly onto the camera body. Do not use compressed air to blow debris off, as it can force particles behind the lens seal or into the PIR sensor slot. Check the lens monthly during high-pollen seasons.
