Diagnosis
The Instant Pot's slow cook function heats from the bottom only, unlike a traditional slow cooker. Dense foods on the bottom can scorch before heat circulates.
How to Fix It
Always use the provided clear glass lid for slow cooking, not the pressure lid. Use more liquid than a traditional recipe calls for. Layer root vegetables on the bottom, meat on top. Stir occasionally if possible.
If That Didn't Work
The "Food Burn" error should not trigger in Slow Cook mode. If it does, the control board may be misreading the temperature sensor. Try a factory reset (unplug for 10 minutes).
Heads Up
The Slow Cook function on this model runs hotter than "Low" on most cookers. Treat it as a "Medium" setting. For long unattended cooks, a dedicated slow cooker is more reliable.
