This is expected. Engine performance decreases at high altitude due to thinner air. Operation above 3000 feet requires a modification.
- For operation above 3000 feet, you must install a high-altitude kit. Operating without it increases emissions and reduces fuel economy and performance.
- Even with the proper kit, the engine will experience a performance drop above 8000 feet. This is normal and unavoidable.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: Ensure you are using fresh fuel and the air filter is clean. A dirty filter exacerbates air intake problems at altitude. Do not attempt to adjust the carburetor yourself without the correct kit.
HEADS UP: Continually operating at high altitude without the correct kit can cause overheating and long-term engine damage. Reduce your electrical load to compensate for the power loss. Contact WEN or a service technician to obtain the proper high-altitude kit for your model.
