wen generator won't stay running, it starts then shuts off after a few seconds.

Immediate shutdown is typically a fuel or oil issue. Check three things, in this order.

  1. Oil Level: The engine has a low-oil shutdown sensor. If the oil is low, it will start and immediately stop. Check and fill the oil to the proper level.
  2. Fuel Valve: Is the vacuum diversion valve on the fuel cap open? Rotate it clockwise to the ON position. If it's closed, the engine is starved of fuel.
  3. Fuel Age: Drain old gas. Use only fresh, unleaded gasoline (within 30 days, 87 octane minimum).

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: The carburetor may be clogged from old fuel. You may need to have it cleaned. Alternatively, a faulty spark plug can cause intermittent operation. Remove and inspect the plug. Clean it if dirty, or replace it if the electrode is damaged or worn.

HEADS UP: Always run the engine for 2-3 minutes with a fuel stabilizer before storage to prevent carburetor issues. For persistent problems, call WEN customer service at (800) 232-1195.
