the eco mode on my wen inverter generator keeps turning the engine off and on, is it supposed to do that?

— asked by Jake

Yes, that's exactly how Eco-Mode is designed to work. It automatically adjusts engine speed (and fuel consumption) based on the electrical load.

  • With Eco-Mode ON and little to no load, the engine will idle down or cycle off/on to conserve fuel.
  • When you plug in a device and draw power, the engine will speed up to meet the demand.
  • This cycling is normal and is how it achieves over 6 hours of run time at half load.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: If the cycling seems erratic or devices are losing power, turn Eco-Mode OFF. Use the generator in standard mode for a constant engine speed. This is also required for starting the generator—always begin with Eco-Mode OFF.

HEADS UP: For applications requiring very stable power (like some sensitive medical equipment), you may prefer to run with Eco-Mode OFF to prevent any potential voltage fluctuations during the engine speed transitions.
