The Silonn SLIM01 utilizes a mechanical infrared/physical hybrid detection system involving a plastic sensor arm (the "ice detector") located at the rear of the ice storage chamber. When the ice basket fills, the cubes push this arm upward; once the arm reaches a specific height, it triggers the "Full" indicator and halts the cooling cycle to prevent ice from overflowing into the internal machinery. The "false full" reading occurs when the sensor arm is physically obstructed or fails to return to its neutral, downward position. This is typically caused by "ice bridging," where a few stray cubes wedge themselves between the basket wall and the sensor arm, pinning it in the "up" position even when the basket is nearly empty. In other cases, mineral buildup from hard water (calcium/magnesium) creates a sticky residue on the pivot point of the arm, increasing friction and preventing the spring mechanism from pulling the arm back down after a few cubes are removed.
How to Fix It
To resolve the premature "Full" alert and restore automatic operation, follow these precise steps:
- Power down the unit and unplug it from the wall outlet to ensure safety while reaching into the chassis.
- Remove the ice basket entirely and dump all remaining cubes.
- Locate the plastic sensor arm at the back of the ice chamber. Gently push the arm upward and let it snap back. If it moves sluggishly or stays tilted, there is a blockage.
- Using a cotton swab dipped in a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and warm distilled water, scrub the pivot point and the shaft of the sensor arm. This removes the limescale that causes the arm to stick.
- Inspect the gap between the ice basket and the interior wall of the machine. Ensure there are no shards of ice or plastic debris wedged in the narrow clearance area where the arm resides.
- Reinsert the ice basket, ensuring it is pushed firmly and completely to the back of the unit. If the basket is slightly skewed, it can put lateral pressure on the sensor arm, triggering the "Full" light prematurely.
- Fill the reservoir with fresh water and restart the machine.
If That Didn't Work
- Perform a Deep Descale Cycle: If the arm is sticking due to internal scale, run a cleaning cycle using a commercial descaler or a strong citric acid solution. Fill the reservoir with the solution, run the machine for one full cycle, and let it sit for 30 minutes before draining. This cleans the hidden areas of the sensor housing that you cannot reach with a swab.
- Check for Basket Deformation: Inspect the plastic edges of your ice basket. If the basket has been dropped or warped, it may be pushing against the sensor arm even when empty. Try using the machine without the basket for one cycle; if the "Full" light doesn't trigger, the basket is the culprit and needs replacement.
- Calibrate Ice Distribution: Sometimes the "Full" error is caused by "pyramiding," where ice piles high in the center but low on the sides. Manually level the ice in the basket. If the machine consistently pyramids, ensure the unit is on a perfectly level surface using a bubble level, as a slight tilt can cause ice to pile up against the sensor arm.
- Reset the Control Board: Unplug the unit for a full 10 minutes to discharge the capacitors on the main PCB. This clears any "ghost" errors in the sensor logic that may have been triggered by a temporary jam.

- Avoid using tap water if you have high mineral content; switching to distilled or filtered water significantly reduces the scale buildup on the sensor arm.
- Never force the sensor arm downward with a tool or screwdriver, as the plastic pivot is fragile and can snap, rendering the machine permanently "empty" and causing ice to overflow into the motor.
- Always ensure the lid is closed tightly; an open or loose lid can change the internal airflow, causing ice to clump and bridge against the sensor more frequently.
- Clean the ice basket and the sensor area once every two weeks with a damp cloth to prevent the biofilm and mineral crust that lead to mechanical sticking.
