This happens most frequently in regions with hard water, where calcium carbonate precipitates onto the silver plating of the evaporator. As the ice builds up, these mineral deposits create friction. If you hear a rhythmic "clack-clack-clack" during the harvest cycle, the motor is skipping teeth on the drive gear because it cannot overcome the physical resistance of the jam. You can confirm this by observing the evaporator fingers; if they are not rotating smoothly or seem to "stutter" before dropping the ice, the mechanism is obstructed.

How to Fix It

To resolve the grinding noise and clear the obstruction, follow these precise steps:

1. Power down the unit immediately by pressing the "On/Off" button and then unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet to prevent motor burnout.
2. Remove the ice basket and any remaining ice to give yourself a clear view of the silver evaporator fingers.
