Diagnosis
The grinding or buzzing noise in the Euhomy IM-01 occurs during the "harvest cycle," the specific moment when the internal motor rotates the ejector blades to push ice cubes off the evaporator pins. When this happens, the motor is encountering excessive mechanical resistance. This is typically caused by "ice bridging," where water has leaked or splashed onto the evaporator plate, freezing the cubes together in a solid mass that the plastic ejector blades cannot easily push through. Alternatively, the noise can be caused by a misalignment of the drive gear or a buildup of mineral deposits (limescale) on the evaporator pins. When calcium builds up, the ice doesn't release cleanly; it clings to the metal, forcing the motor to strain against the frozen bond. This creates a high-pitched buzzing or a rhythmic grinding sound as the motor struggles to complete its rotation, which can eventually lead to the motor overheating or the plastic gears stripping.
How to Fix It
- Power down the unit completely and unplug it from the wall outlet to prevent accidental activation of the harvest cycle while your hands are inside.
- Remove the ice basket and the scoop. Use a high-lumen flashlight to inspect the area directly above the basket where the ice drops.
- Check for "bridge ice"—large chunks of ice that have fused together across the evaporator pins. If you see a solid block, do not force it.
- Use a soft-bristled nylon brush or a plastic utensil (such as a plastic spoon) to gently nudge the ice. Never use a metal screwdriver or knife, as the evaporator fins are coated in a specialized refrigerant layer that will leak if punctured.
- If the ice is frozen solid, pour a small amount of lukewarm (not boiling) distilled water over the frozen mass to loosen the bond between the ice and the pins.
- Wipe all excess water from the interior walls and the rim of the ice basket to prevent future bridging.
- Plug the unit back in and press the "Power" button. Wait for the unit to complete one full cycle to ensure the noise has subsided.
If That Didn't Work
- Perform a Deep Descaling Cycle: If the noise persists, it is likely mineral buildup on the pins. Mix a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% warm water. Fill the reservoir and run the unit through 2-3 full cycles. This dissolves the calcium deposits that cause the ice to "stick," reducing the torque required by the motor.
- Inspect the Drainage Plug: Check the rubber drain plug at the bottom of the machine. If it is not seated perfectly flush, air can enter the system or water can leak internally, causing erratic freezing patterns that jam the ejector blades. Remove the plug, clean the area, and re-seat it firmly.
- Verify Leveling: Ensure the IM-01 is on a completely flat, hard surface. If the unit is tilted, the water distributes unevenly across the evaporator plate, creating "thick" ice on one side that the ejector blades cannot push, leading to a grinding sound as the motor stalls.
- Hard Reset: Unplug the unit for at least 30 minutes. This allows any internal frost buildup on the motor housing or the drive shaft to melt completely, resetting the mechanical alignment of the harvest arm.

- Avoid Tap Water: Using hard tap water accelerates the buildup of minerals on the evaporator pins. Switch to filtered or distilled water to prevent the "sticky ice" phenomenon.
- Temperature Management: Ensure there is at least 6 inches of clearance around the side vents. If the unit overheats, the refrigerant pressure fluctuates, which can lead to malformed ice cubes that jam the mechanism.
- Empty Regularly: Do not let the ice basket overfill. When ice piles up to the bottom of the evaporator, the machine cannot drop new cubes, causing the motor to grind against the existing ice pile.
- No Metal Tools: Never use metal picks to clear jams. A single puncture in the evaporator plate will permanently kill the cooling system and void the warranty.
