Diagnosis
This total power failure on a brand new Frigidaire EFIC189 is almost always caused by a disconnected internal power harness rather than a dead motor or a fried control board. During the shipping and handling process, the vibrations and jolts can cause the internal power connector—which bridges the external power cord to the main PCB (Printed Circuit Board)—to wiggle loose from its socket. Because this is a "blind" connection tucked under the chassis, the machine looks perfectly fine on the outside, but the electrical circuit is physically broken. To confirm this is the issue, check for any signs of life when you toggle the power switch. If there are no LED indicators on the display panel and no audible humming or clicking from the compressor, the unit is not receiving current. Since you have already verified that the wall outlet is live using another device, the failure is isolated to the internal bridge between the AC inlet and the control board.
How to Fix It
To restore power to your ice maker, you will need a Phillips #2 screwdriver and a soft surface (like a towel or rug) to protect the finish of the machine.
- Completely unplug the unit from the wall outlet to ensure there is no live current while you are working.
- Carefully tilt the machine backward or lay it on its side on a soft surface. Locate the rectangular plastic access panel on the bottom of the chassis.
- Remove the two Phillips-head screws securing the panel. Keep these screws in a small bowl so they don't roll away.
- Lift the panel away to reveal the internal wiring. Locate the thick black power cord where it enters the machine and connects to the main wiring harness.
- You will see a white or clear plastic molex-style connector. Grip the plastic housing of the connector firmly and push it inward toward the board until you hear or feel a distinct "click." This indicates the locking tab has engaged.
- Gently tug the wire to ensure it is seated firmly and will not slide out again.
- Replace the access panel and tighten the screws.
- Stand the unit upright, plug it back into the wall, and toggle the power switch. The display should illuminate immediately.
If That Didn't Work
- Check the GFCI Reset: If your outlet is a GFCI (the kind with "Test" and "Reset" buttons), it may have tripped the moment you plugged in the compressor. Press the "Reset" button firmly. If it pops back out immediately, there is a ground fault in the unit, and you should contact the retailer for a replacement.
- Inspect the Power Cord for Pinches: Examine the length of the power cable for any sharp kinks or flattened sections that may have occurred during unboxing. A severed internal wire in the cord itself will cause a total power loss. If you see a visible break in the outer insulation, the cord needs replacement.
- Test with a Different Circuit: Compact nugget ice makers pull a significant surge of current when the compressor starts. If you are using a power strip or a surge protector, bypass it and plug the EFIC189 directly into a wall outlet on a different circuit to rule out an overloaded breaker.
- Internal Fuse Inspection: If you are comfortable with electronics, check the small ceramic fuse located on the main PCB. If the fuse has blown (indicated by a blackened glass end or a broken filament), the unit will remain dead regardless of the connection. This usually requires a warranty replacement of the board.

- Avoid Extension Cords: Never use a thin household extension cord with this model; the compressor requires stable voltage to avoid overheating the control board.
- Wait Before Restarting: If you unplug the unit and plug it back in quickly, the compressor may be locked out for 3-5 minutes to protect the refrigerant system. Give it a few minutes to cycle.
- Leveling is Key: Ensure the machine is on a perfectly level surface. An unlevel EFIC189 can cause the ice to jam in the auger, which may lead to an "Error" code or a safety shutdown once you do get it powered on.
- Initial Flush: Once powered on, run the first two batches of ice through and discard them to clear any manufacturing residues from the internal lines.
