If the unit cannot dump the heat it extracts from the water into the surrounding air, the evaporator plate fails to reach the critical sub-zero temperature required to solidify the nugget core. You can confirm this by feeling the side panels of the machine; if they feel excessively hot to the touch or if you hear the fan running constantly without a drop in internal temperature, the unit is struggling with thermal overload. Additionally, using warm tap water (above 50°F) puts an extra load on the compressor, leading to the "slushy" output.
How to Fix It
To restore the freezing efficiency and ensure solid nugget production, follow these precise calibration and environmental steps:
- Optimize Airflow Clearance: Ensure the unit is not pushed flush against a wall. You must maintain a minimum of 5 inches of open space on the left, right, and rear sides. If the unit is on a countertop, ensure there is nothing stored directly above the top vents.
