mr coffee bvmc-zh1b making a loud gurgling noise and spitting coffee grounds into the pot

— asked by Lisa

That gurgling and spitting means the water isn't flowing through the grounds evenly, likely because the filter basket is clogged or overloaded.

  1. First, make sure you're using the right size filter. It's designed for a standard #4 basket-shaped paper filter.
  2. Don't overfill the basket. For 12 cups, use the provided scoop and fill only to the "12" line inside the basket. Using too fine of a grind can also cause this.
  3. After each use, take the basket out and rinse it thoroughly under hot water. Use a soft brush to clear any old grounds stuck in the holes.

If that didn't work, check that the water reservoir lid is securely closed. If it's not sealing, it can disrupt the water pressure.

Heads up: Never brew less than 4 cups of coffee. The water needs that minimum volume to distribute heat and pressure correctly.
