my brita pitcher filter indicator light is blinking red, what does that mean and what do i do?

The red light blinking means your filter has reached 0% of its life and should be replaced. It's time for a new one.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Replace the old filter with a new one. Make sure you know which type you have: a white standard Brita filter or a blue Brita LONGLAST filter.
2. After installing the new filter, you must reset the indicator. Press and hold the STATUS button. For a standard white filter, hold it for 2 seconds, then release. For a blue LONGLAST filter, hold it for 6 seconds, then release.
3. You'll see the lights blink to confirm. For a standard filter, all lights blink twice, then the green STANDARD FILTER light blinks three times. For a LONGLAST filter, the green LONGLAST FILTER light will blink three times by itself.

If that didn't work, you might have selected the wrong mode. If you accidentally set it for a standard filter when you installed a LONGLAST one (or vice-versa), just repeat the reset process with the correct hold time.

Heads up: The pitcher itself will still work if the indicator's battery dies after several years, but you'll need to remember to change your filter manually every 2 months for standard or 6 months for LONGLAST.
