The "Shake Reminder" is a programmed alert designed to ensure even cooking by reminding you to toss or shake the food midway through the cycle. On the Chefman 6 Quart Dual Basket model, this is a system-level notification. If the beeping is disruptive, it is likely because the unit is in its default "Sound On" mode, which triggers audible alerts for both the shake reminder and the completion of the cooking cycle.
How to Fix It
To silence the shake reminder and all other operational beeps, follow these steps:
- Locate the MUTE button on the main digital control panel.
- Press the button firmly once.
- Verify that the word OFF is illuminated on the display screen. This confirms that the audio notifications have been deactivated.
If That Didn't Work
If the beeping persists or the "OFF" indicator does not light up:
- Check for "Ghost" Presses: Ensure no one is accidentally pressing the Mute button during the cycle, which would toggle the sound back on.
- Power Cycle: Unplug the unit from the wall outlet for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Note that this resets the unit to factory defaults, meaning you will need to press the Mute button again to disable the sounds.
- Panel Cleanliness: Ensure there is no grease or food residue on the touch panel, as debris can interfere with the capacitive buttons' ability to register a press.

When the Mute function is active, you lose all audio cues. You must actively monitor the SHAKE indicator light on the panel to know when to toss your food, and keep an eye on the READY lights to determine when your meal is finished to avoid overcooking.
