The BCRK25V utilizes a basic thermostat-controlled compressor system. When the compressor runs non-stop, it means the internal temperature sensor is never reaching the "cut-off" point required to trigger the relay to shut down. This is typically caused by a thermal leak or an inability to dissipate heat. If the compressor cannot shed heat from the refrigerant, it cannot cool the interior, creating a feedback loop where the motor runs indefinitely to compensate for the rising temperature. You can confirm this by placing a thermometer inside the fridge. If the temperature is hovering around 40°F-45°F but the compressor is still humming, the unit is struggling with heat exchange. If the interior is freezing (below 32°F) but the motor won't stop, you have a failed cold-control thermostat that is no longer sensing the temperature correctly. Running the compressor 24/7 will eventually lead to premature wear on the piston rings and may cause the start relay to overheat and pop, leading to a complete cooling failure.
How to Fix It
Follow these steps in order to resolve the cycling issue and protect the compressor:
- Optimize Airflow: Move the unit at least 3 inches away from the wall and 2 inches away from any side cabinetry. The BCRK25V relies on passive convection; if the back panel is flush against a wall, heat traps under the unit and the compressor will never shut off.
- Clean the Condenser Coils: Unplug the unit and pull it out. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment or a can of compressed air to remove all dust and pet hair from the black coils on the rear of the chassis. Dust acts as an insulator, preventing the refrigerant from cooling down.
- Inspect the Door Gasket: Take a dollar bill, place it halfway across the door seal, and close the door. Try to pull the bill out. If it slides out with no resistance, your seal is leaking. Clean the gasket with warm soapy water and a cloth to remove any sticky residue that might be preventing a tight seal.
- Adjust the Temperature Dial: Locate the dial inside the fridge. If it is set to the maximum "Cold" setting, the unit may struggle to reach that extreme temperature in a warm room. Turn the dial back to a mid-range setting (usually 3 or 4) and wait 12 hours to see if the compressor cycles off.
- Clear the Interior Vents: Ensure that no food items or containers are pushed directly against the back wall of the interior. This blocks the airflow from the evaporator, preventing the sensor from detecting the actual air temperature.
If That Didn't Work
- Replace the Cold Control Thermostat: If the interior is freezing but the motor won't stop, the thermostat has likely failed in the "closed" position. You will need to source a compatible replacement thermostat and swap it out, ensuring the capillary tube is seated correctly in its holder.
- Check for Refrigerant Leaks: If the compressor is running but the interior is barely cool, you likely have a slow leak in the sealed system. Check the back coils; if they are cold to the touch while the motor is running, the refrigerant has escaped. Unfortunately, on a compact unit like the BCRK25V, this is generally not cost-effective to repair.
- Test the Start Relay: If the compressor is making a clicking sound every few minutes but not staying on, the start relay (the small plastic box attached to the side of the compressor) is failing. Replacing this part is a cheap and effective way to restore proper cycling.
- Relocate the Unit: If the fridge is placed next to a dishwasher, oven, or in direct sunlight, the external heat load may be higher than the unit's cooling capacity. Move it to a cooler, shaded area of the room.

- Never use a knife or sharp object to scrape frost off the interior walls, as you can easily puncture the refrigerant lines and permanently kill the unit.
- Avoid overfilling the fridge; leaving about 20% of the space empty allows air to circulate, which helps the thermostat trigger the shut-off switch faster.
- If you notice the sides of the fridge feeling excessively hot to the touch, it is a sign the compressor is overworking; immediately check for dust buildup on the rear coils.
- Always unplug the unit for at least 30 minutes before moving it to allow the oil in the compressor to settle, preventing mechanical failure upon restart.
