my craftsman smart garage door opener 57918 just has a solid blue light and won't respond to the remote or wall button.

— asked by Taylor

DIAGNOSIS The opener is stuck in its programming/waiting mode, usually after a power interruption or a failed programming attempt. The solid blue light is its 'listen' state.

FIX Clear the error and reprogram the remote.

  1. Press and hold the smart button on the motor unit (the one with the blue light) for 6+ seconds until the light turns off.
  2. Release. The light will flash amber.
  3. Immediately press and hold your remote button until the opener light flashes and you hear two clicks.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK You may need a full system reset. Unplug the opener from power for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait for it to complete its startup cycle (light will go solid blue), then try reprogramming the remote again.

HEADS UP If the remote was working and this happened after a storm or brief outage, it's almost always this programming lockout, not a hardware failure.
