The pickup roller is dirty. Dirt and dust prevent the roller from gripping the paper.
Clean the pickup roller.
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the back.
- Remove all paper from the input tray.
- Flip the printer on its side.
- Release the blue latch, hold onto it, and remove the panel.
- Dampen a soft, lint-free cloth with alcohol or water. Wipe each roller with moderate pressure.
- Wait 10 minutes for the rollers to dry completely.
- While holding the blue latch, align and insert the panel. Release the latch to lock it.
- Flip the printer back upright.
- Reload the paper and plug the printer back in.
If that didn't work: The paper itself might be the issue. Use only paper that meets HP specifications: good quality, free of dust, cuts, or curls, and designed for laser printers. Do not use paper that is too rough or contains metallic material like glitter.
Heads up: Always unplug the printer before performing any internal cleaning. Never use sharp objects to clean the rollers.
