Diagnosis
Your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e is currently using a wired Ethernet connection for network access. The printer can maintain its Ethernet connection while you configure Wi-Fi; you do not need to unplug the cable. The setup process involves directing the HP Smart software to prioritize or configure the Wi-Fi connection.
How to Fix It
To add Wi-Fi without disconnecting Ethernet:
- Ensure your computer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
- Select your printer, then go to Printer Settings or the network setup section.
- Choose Wireless Setup Wizard or a similar option.
- Follow the on-screen prompts. The app will guide the printer to connect to your Wi-Fi network, using the existing Ethernet connection to communicate the Wi-Fi credentials.
If That Didn't Work
If the HP Smart app cannot configure Wi-Fi over Ethernet, try these steps:
- Run the Wireless Setup Wizard directly from the printer's control panel under Network Settings.
- Temporarily unplug the Ethernet cable, then immediately use the printer's control panel to connect to Wi-Fi. Once connected, you can plug the Ethernet cable back in for a dual connection.
- For a fresh start, reset the printer's network settings to factory defaults from the control panel, then run setup in HP Smart with only Wi-Fi enabled on your computer.
Heads Up
Having both Ethernet and Wi-Fi active simultaneously can sometimes cause network conflicts. If you experience connectivity issues after setup, try using just one connection for simplicity. The printer's IP address may differ between the two connections.
