How to Fix It
Since this is usually a characteristic of the tool's design rather than a defect, the "fix" involves ensuring the spindle lock is properly seated and the chuck is cleaned to prevent debris from interfering with the ratcheting mechanism. Follow these steps to ensure the tool is operating optimally:
- Remove the M18 battery pack to ensure the tool cannot accidentally engage during maintenance.
- Open the chuck fully by rotating the sleeve counter-clockwise until the jaws are completely retracted.
- Use a can of compressed air or a low-pressure air nozzle to blow out any sawdust, drywall dust, or metal shavings from inside the chuck jaws and the area where the sleeve meets the gear housing.

If That Didn't Work
